It’s that time of the year again and preparations are now underway for another controlled burn in the compensatory habitat at the University of the Sunshine Coast
This controlled burn will help to reduce the fuel load and associated fire hazard risk and maintain the health of the vegetation community which contains rare and endangered plant species.
The area to be burnt this year is Area 2 which is just under 1Ha in size and shown below.
The first date for the burn has now been set for Wednesday 23rd of August (conditions dependant), with a back up option for Wednesday the 30th of August.
A decision to proceed with the burn will be made on Monday 21st August.
The planned burn will begin at approximately 9am and should be complete by 12pm.
Communications to University staff and students and adjoining local residents in Sippy Downs will be produced and delivered over the coming week.
If you have any questions or concerns please don’t hesitate to contact Gabriel McGhee directly.
