A PUBLIC community forum has been organised in response to the Government’s draft plan of the Bruce Highway Upgrade Planning study, which was recently released.
Member for Kawana Jarrod Bleijie has organised the forum in conjunction with the Sippy Downs & Districts Community Association following feedback from the local community.
“The major issue of concern is the plan to close access from the Sunshine Motorway to Sippy Downs,” Mr Bleijie said.
“Closing the existing on-ramp and off-ramp from Sippy Downs Drive will force the majority of local traffic through the Dixon Road interchange.
“Any plan to close access to this community is ridiculous and poorly planned and will create immediate traffic congestion in Sippy Downs.
“There is no question that the Bruce Highway and these interchanges are in desperate need of an upgrade, but closing off an access point to a local community is short sighted and will cause major internal traffic congestion.
“Sippy Downs is a community that is home to over 5000 residents, a major commercial and retail centre, four local schools and the University of the Sunshine Coast.
“The impacts of this plan are far reaching and may have dire consequences for the University’s plans to continue to grow.
“The community campaign follows on from other similar efforts to re-route the proposed north-south Greenlink from Palmview through Sippy Downs, the introduction of Unitywater and the ‘Hospital Delay No Way’ campaign.
“We will fight long and hard to keep this access open,” Mr Bleijie said.
