Safer, smoother, more functional travel through Sippy Downs is currently under construction via Sunshine Coast Council’s Sippy Downs Drive Project.Division 6 Councillor Christian Dickson said stage three works were continuing from the previous stage of works west of Stringybark Road.“Stage three of this project is focusing on a 300m stretch in front of the Siena College at an estimated cost of $2.7 million,” he said.“Works in progress include construction of a four metre wide pedestrian pathway as well as on-road cycle lanes on both sides of the road via a $350,000 grant under the State Government’s Cycle Network Program.

“The current east and west bound traffic lanes are set to be widened to two lanes and a median strip installed in the centre of the road that will continue the ‘boulevard look’ from the previous stages of this project.

“In addition to this, a signalised traffic and pedestrian intersection is being installed at the entrance to Siena College – this will be funded entirely by the developer of the property on the northern side of Sippy Downs Drive to coincide with their proposed subdivisional works.

“Underground electrical supply is also being installed to power the street and pedestrian lighting and the area is undergoing landscaping works consistent with previous stages of this project.

“Council recently held a meeting with Sienna College to coordinate construction of their entry and exit while maintaining access to the school and church. We will endeavour to complete as much of their access works as possible over the upcoming September school holidays.

“This is all happening in a very busy area that is subject to heavy school traffic flows and I’d like to thank everyone who is affected by the current works for their patience and I look forward to the end result that will be a fantastic outcome for the Sippy Downs community.”

Stage three works are on track for completion near the end of 2014. Traffic control measures will remain in place while works are in progress.
