Call to get involved with ‘The House the Coast Built’
Wishlist launched The House the Coast Built on the 10th of August which will see over 50 local businesses unite to build and auction off a new home to raise much-needed funds for Sunshine Coast kids who are sick or struggling to cope with a family member with mental illness or substance addiction.
Wishlist CEO Lisa Rowe called on local businesses to come on board and said the project — which was made possible thanks to Ausmar Homes building the new home entirely through local businesses and tradespeople donating their time and materials — was expected to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars to support Sunshine Coast kids.
“The funds raised will be channelled into two very important causes. The first is Nambour Hospital’s Diversional Therapy Program which gives kids on the paediatric ward access to therapists using yoga and music, as well as interaction with animals and structured play sessions to help reduce stress, anxiety and insomnia,” Ms Rowe said.
“Those who have kids will know that when your child is sick, nothing else matters. So when you find yourself in the paediatric ward — sometimes for months at a time — any diversion to help your little ones cope is a blessing.”
“The second cause is equally important and will see funding go to the very successful SCKoping getaway camps, which provide a respite for kids aged between nine and 18 who have a family member battling mental illness or drug/alcohol addiction.”
“Kids living in this type of environment, whether it be a sibling or parent suffering from the affliction, really need support and the SCKoping camps help enhance their coping skills and resilience so they can return home equipped to deal with the situation.”
The House the Coast Built will see Ausmar Homes build a four-bedroom home at the popular Flame Tree Pocket development in Sippy Downs which will then be auctioned off early next year to fuel the fundraising effort.
“The wonderful team at Ausmar Homes was quick to offer their support again following the huge success of Wishlist House which was built in Birtinya in 2012 and raised over $290,000,” Ms Rowe said.
“This year we are delighted to be building in the very desirable location of Flame Tree Pocket thanks to Reed Property Group and the Crosby family offering significantly discounted land as their contribution to the project.”
“The generosity of all those who participate in these initiatives never ceases to amaze me and we once again expect an influx of people who want to come on board to support the project this year.”
Ausmar Business Development Manager Josh Green said the list of local businesses and tradespeople wanting to be involved with the project continued to grow and he called on any businesses wanting to come on board to get in touch as soon as possible.
“The feel-good factor in contributing to this house is really wonderful; what could be better than knowing you are contributing to making life a little better for the Coast’s youngsters at a time when they really need it?” Mr Green said.
“I have five kids and have found myself in the paediatric ward a few times. It’s one of the hardest experiences to see your child going through such a tough time and I can’t even imagine what it must be like for those families who need to spend months at a time there.”
“We are very proud to be involved with The House the Coast Built, and have found the support we’ve had from local contractors quite overwhelming; several of the businesses on board are donating tens of thousands of dollars in labour and materials which is just phenomenal.”
Reed Property Group Head of Development Jay Emmerton said judging by the high levels of interest in the Flame Tree Pocket development experienced in recent months, he was confident The House the Coast Built would attract plenty of attention from investors and home-hunters on the Sunshine Coast.
“The first stage of Flame Tree Pocket was released in late 2014 and sold out in 24 hours. Now less than a year later we have released Stage Four “A” to our waiting list, so it’s clear allotments in Flame Tree Pocket are in demand,” Mr Emmerton said.
“With such keen interest we anticipate strong bidding on the day of the auction, and I’d like to think we can raise the bar even further this year and exceed the funds raised in 2012 for this very worthy initiative.”
